Hourly contracts on goLance allow clients and freelancers to manage projects with flexible hourly billing. One important feature available to clients is the ability to set a weekly hour limit for each contract.
This guide explains how weekly limits work and how to update them.
What Is a Weekly Hour Limit?
A weekly limit is the maximum number of hours a freelancer can bill to an hourly contract during a single workweek.
The limit is:
- Set by the client during the hiring process
- Used to help manage project budgets and spending
- Adjustable at any time by the client
Working Beyond the Weekly Limit
If a freelancer needs to work additional hours beyond the current weekly limit, they should discuss it with the client beforehand.
Important
Hours worked beyond the weekly limit will not be automatically billed through the contract.
To compensate freelancers for additional work, clients can issue:
- Bonus payments for hours worked beyond the limit
This allows:
- Freelancers to be paid for extra work
- Clients to maintain control over project spending
Increasing the Weekly Limit
Clients can increase the weekly limit at any time.
When the limit is updated:
- The change takes effect immediately
- Hours already logged in the Work Diary during the current week will count toward the new limit
How to Change a Weekly Limit
- Hover over Jobs Manager and click on Hourly Contracts
- Select the contract you want to update
Click Settings
- Under the Contract section, locate Weekly Limit
Enter the new weekly limit and click save.
Important Notes
- Weekly limits cannot be completely removed.
- However, clients can increase the limit as high as needed
It is not recommended for freelancers to work beyond the agreed weekly limit without client approval, as this may result in:
- Unpaid work
- Confusion about billing
- Dissatisfaction for both the client and freelancer
