What is the Task Management Feature?
The Task Management feature on goLance helps contractors plan and organize their work, track time more accurately, and build trust with clients through greater transparency. By creating tasks and sub-tasks, you can clearly communicate what you're working on and how time is being spent.
What Contractors Can Do?
With this feature, contractors can:
- Create and edit tasks
- Add descriptions, due dates, and update task status
- Add sub-tasks for more detailed breakdowns
- Track time to tasks via manual time or goMeter
- Reassign tracked time to the correct task later
- View time entries in a task-specific calendar
- Leave and reply to comments
Share task URLs with clients for easy reference
Understanding Tasks & Sub-Tasks
Tasks represent work items that help you organize what you're doing and give your client clarity on progress.
Each task includes:
- Name
- Description
- Status (To Do, In Progress, Done)
- Sub-tasks (optional)
- Comments
- Time logs
Sub-tasks help break down your work inside a main task. They do not affect the task's overall completion, but they make it easier to describe and categorize time entries.
Each sub-task falls under one of two types:
Time Tracking with Tasks
You can track time directly to a task or sub-task through:
Comments
- Add context to your work or reply to client feedback
Calendar View
- See where your time was logged across the week
- Spot gaps or overlaps at a goLance
Task Access Rules
Anyone who has access to a contract also has access to its tasks.
This includes:
- You (the contractor)
- Your client
- Collaborators on the contract
- Your agency (if applicable)

- Group repetitive work under sub-tasks
- Use task URLs in chats/messages for easy reference
FAQ
Can I use tasks on fixed or milestone contracts?
No — tasks are only available on hourly contracts.
Do I have to use tasks to log time?
No, but it’s highly recommended. Tasks give your client more clarity and can help reduce excessive back-and-forth communication.
Do tasks affect how I’m paid?
No. Tasks just organize your work. You're still paid based on approved time.
Can I reassign time entries to a task after tracking?
Yes. You can reassign logged time to tasks at any time.
Why mark a sub-task as a Meeting?
This ensures your client understands that lower activity levels are expected during meetings, so your productivity isn’t misinterpreted.
Will clients see sub-tasks and comments?
Yes, everything tied to the contract is visible to the client — but only you can create/edit tasks.
Can I delete a task?
You can delete a task if no time has been logged to it. Otherwise, you can edit but not remove it.
Can I share a task with my client?
Yes. Every task has a unique URL that you can copy and share.
